Overview[edit]

A material component is one or more physical substances or objects that are annihilated by the spell energies in the casting process. Some spells require the basic spell casters material component, such as Pinch of Fine Sand. These components can be purchased at Arcane or Divine spell reagent vendors.

Besides the normal components you can purchase with Platinum from vendors, the DDO store offers items that act as universal material components. Both of these can also drop in quests.

Omnispell Dust can replace the normal material components, same as those purchased from vendors
Omnispell Stone can replace the special components needed for specific spells.

Bypass Component Requirements[edit]

There are some ways to completely bypass the normal material components. These options do not bypass any of the Special Components that are defined below.

Eschew Materials is a metamagic feat which allows you to cast without the normal material components. Using this metamagic feat increases the cost of casting the spell by 2 spell points.
The Magic of Austerity enhancement in the Harper Agent Tree grants similar effect to Eschew Materials, but without extra spell point cost.
The Draconic Heritage enhancement in the Draconic Incarnation Epic Destiny.
The Metamagic Attunement: Eschew enhancement in the Fatesinger Epic Destiny.

Special Components[edit]

Certain spells require different or additional material components than the ones listed below. While this list of spells is small, it is an important consideration before you head out to quest. This is a list of the spells that need special components and the components that are needed.
