DDO Compendium:Edit Warring Policy

From DDO Compendium

This policy is intended to outline what edit warring is and what (if any) ramifications could arise from participating in an edit war.

Definition[edit]

A dispute over the content of a page on a wiki or other editable work.[1]

Page Protection[edit]

When a page succumbs to an edit war, it will immediately be protected from editing by all users and reverted back to its state prior to the beginning of the edit war by an administrator. The page will remain protected until such time the users participating in the edit war come to an amicable agreement over the content that is supposed to be displayed on that page. Discussion over the page content should take place on the talk page of the page involved in the edit war.

User Bans[edit]

Edit Warring is a practice that disrupts the harmony of the Compendium and all users involved can (and will) receive a temporary editing restriction (ban) for seven calendar days if an amicable agreement cannot be made between the warring users within 24 hours of protecting the page. Bans are likely to not happen in the majority of cases, but are included in this policy for those extreme cases.

Users that receive a temporary ban, as outlined above, will have the ban automatically lifted at the end of the seventh day and can resume editing as normal. If additional edit wars take place involving the same users, a 30 day temporary ban will be issued. Additional edit wars involving the same individuals occurring after a 30 day temporary ban, will result in a permanent ban.

Administrators[edit]

While unlikely, it is possible that Administrators could be involved in edit wars as well. Administrators involved in edit wars are subject to the same ramifications as normal users but also include removal of all Administrator permissions until the edit war is over and the page is unprotected. Administrator rights may or may not be reinstated to the Administrator involved and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by all other Administrators.

About This Policy[edit]

This policy is a fluid document and may be changed and/or altered as the need arises. If there is something that you feel has been omitted or is inaccurate, please inform an Administrator.
