Overview

Dark Hunters strike terror into their prey. They are infused with the energies of the Underdark, and can effectively use and disarm traps.

Rangers switch between bow and melee combat, shooting until the enemy closes to melee range, then switching weapons. They are the best class at two-weapon fighting, using a weapon in each hand. In addition, they can make very good scouts, sneaking ahead of the party and gathering information on enemies.

Rangers are also incredibly skilled with the bow. They can eventually learn remarkable techniques like shooting through groups of enemies with a single arrow or firing multiple arrows simultaneously.

Rangers can also cast several useful spells and learn these at level4.

  • Dark Hunters cast divine spells.
  • Upon advancing to level 4, dark hunters gain the ability to tap the divine power in nature and manifest that energy in the form of spells. To cast a spell a ranger must have a Wisdom score of 10 + the spell's level.
  • Dungeons and Dragons Online allows ability score boosting items and spells to qualify for reaching the minimum Wisdom score for casting spells. For example, a ranger with a Wisdom score of 8 could equip a +6 Wisdom enhancing item to reach a total Wisdom score of 14 and be able to cast level 4 dark hunters spells.
Combat Style Feats
The ranged and melee combat style feats gained at levels 2, 6 and 11 are automatically obtained even if the ranger does not meet the usual prerequisites for these feats. In addition, the ranger does not need to wear light or no armor to use these feats.

Level 1[edit]

  • Sneak Attack +1d6: This feat adds 1d6 damage when attacking enemies who are not targeting you. This feat can be used with ranged weapons within 30 ft. The damage benefit increases by 1d6 at levels 5, 10, 15 and 20. Sneak Attack does not affect the undead, plants, constructs or oozes.

  • First Favored Enemy: At first level a dark hunter can select a type of creature from the Dark Hunter favored enemy list. Favored Enemy grants +2 to damage and +2 to the skills Bluff, Listen, and Spot against the chosen creature type. At 5th level and every 5 levels thereafter (10th, 15th, and 20th) a dark hunter may select an additional creature type from the favored enemy list. In addition, every 5 levels, the damage bonus against favored enemies increases by 2.
  • Wild Empathy: This feat allows the dark hunter to fascinate an animal as per the Hypnotism spell so that it will not attack. It can be used 3 times / day.
  • Wilderness Lore: Represents your knowledge of the wilderness. This feat is received once for every dark hunter level.
  • Trapfinding: Dark Hunters can use the Search skill to locate difficult traps when the task has a Difficulty Class higher than 20.

  • Two Weapon Fighting: This feat reduces the to-hit penalty when using two weapons at the same time, and increases the chance to proc an off-hand attack by 20%, bringing the total chance to 40%.
  • Wilderness Lore: Represents your knowledge of the wilderness.

Level 3[edit]

  • Diehard: This feat causes the dark hunter to automatically stabilize when they become unconscious.
  • Trapmaking: You have learned enough about traps to be able to scavenge parts from them, and with the help of the Free Agent, can craft your own. Automatically granted to dark hunters at level 3.
